Meet Nolan

Nolan, adventurous 4 year old!

Nolan, adventurous 4 year old!

“Nolan is the most loving and adventurous 4 year old.” Nolans parents noticed his unique quirks fairly early which led to a diagnosis of ASD (autism spectrum disorder) at just 15 months of age. Thank to his early diagnosis, Nolan was able to receive special early education and therapies through a program called First Steps. He now attends Kansas City Behavioral Health, a school specifically designed for young children on the spectrum. When first starting school Nolan could say a maximum of 5 words, but now he can talk to you in complete sentences! When he wants to, that is.

Although he has made great strides and is now meeting milestones his parents didn't always think were possible, Nolan still has a hard time identifying danger and eloping (wandering off or running away/hiding). There have been at least 5 instances where Nolan eloped and his parents feared for his life. Those lost minutes feel like hours to a parent. Every minute that passes is another minute he could get further away. To combat this fear and protect Nolan, his parents reached out to the Love Fund to receive an Angel Sense device. An AngelSense, is a wearable GPS & voice-monitoring solution designed for children with special needs. If a child is in an unfamiliar or unexpected location parents are automatically alerted with a text message and can view their child’s location in real time.

Nolan’s mom felt this device was necessary because if “heaven forbid it happens again, I am able to locate him directly from my phone, hear his surroundings, and talk to him directly. My family will now be able to go on outings together with less worry and stress. The idea of an in-home caretaker to help relieve Mom and Dad is now an option! The fear of simply going down stairs to change a load of laundry and coming back to find him missing is gone. I am beyond grateful to the Fox4 Love Fund and the donations that make it possible to bless families like mine. You guys are real life changers!  Thank you all!”
