Meet Luke
Luke is a four year old boy who loves working with REAL tools - play tools just don’t get the job done! He enjoys playing with sensory bins, playdough, and sand. His creative, mechanical brain delights in watching car videos and going looking for trains. He loves vegetables and will eat tomatoes straight from the garden.
In the midst of multiple life changes for the family, Luke was diagnosed with Autism. Luke’s parents decided to move from St. Louis to Kansas City to be closer to family for support. Luke can now practice social interactions with his cousins and receive extra care from his extended family. While they have a wonderful support system now, the environmental change was challenging for Luke and set him back behaviorally.
Luke started ABA Therapy and Occupational Therapy in Kansas City and has shown improvement socially and behaviorally. The therapists recommended the family create a calming, quiet space for Luke at home. They recommended some sensory items that would help him adapt to his new environment and self-regulate. Luke’s parents approached the Love Fund for assistance with a weighted vest, swivel chair, rocker, and a body sock. His mother reports that he is easily settled with the rocking motion now that he can climb into the floor rocker and rock himself back and forth. He loves squeezes so when he is struggling, they use the body sock to regulate his sensory needs.
“These items are a huge blessing to our family, and we can’t wait to see how they impact Luke’s daily life!” - Stacy, Luke’s Mother
