Jackson County, FOX4 Love Fund for Children and Sheriff’s Office partner for 12-week free food distribution program

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The FOX4 Love Fund for Children, Jackson County and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office are proud to announce their partnership for the Love Fund Feeds program, a free drive-thru distribution initiative to combat hunger in the community. Every week for the next 12 weeks, 500 families across Jackson County will receive fresh produce and dairy products with the help of a local food distributor.

“Many families are experiencing new challenges that have come during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as being newly unemployed or furloughed and wondering where to turn to for help,” said Allyson Summers, FOX4 Love Fund Executive Director. “With all of the uncertainty, we want to ensure that putting food on the table isn't something that Jackson County families have to worry about."

The Love Fund Feeds program begins on Tuesday, June 2 at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, 4001 NE Lakewood Court in Lee’s Summit, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Subsequent drive-thru distributions will occur every Wednesday until August 19 at select locations throughout the County. The time will remain 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

“This is an opportunity to provide an immediate basic need for our residents that will have a significant impact on their daily lives,” said Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. “I’d like to thank the FOX4 Love Fund for their collaboration, compassion and commitment to support Jackson County families during this extraordinary time of need. Together with the Sheriff’s Office, we have made every effort to ensure food is accessible in each part of the County, no matter where our residents live.”

“Partnering with the FOX4 Love Fund to feed families during the COVID 19 pandemic is one of many ways the Sheriff’s Office is assisting the community during this unprecedented time,” said Jackson County Sheriff Darryl Forté. “As a proactive law enforcement agency, we realize the current pandemic has brought on significant challenges for many families within our community. We are proud to partner to bring resources to the citizens we serve and will endeavor to remain a resource for our community in times of need.”

On distribution days, families simply drive up to the select distribution site and remain in their vehicles as volunteers wearing appropriate personal protective equipment provide contactless delivery of food to the trunk. Distribution occurs on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 500 vehicles. Each vehicle will receive one dairy box and one produce box consisting of the following:

3 LBS Apples
1 LB Oranges
5 LBS Potatoes
3 LBS Onions
1 Iceberg Lettuce
1 Zucchini
1 LB Carrots
2 Lemons
1 Yellow Squash
1 LB Strawberries
1 LB Broccoli
(2) 2 Gallons of Milk
2 LBS Unsalted Butter
1 Quart of Half and Half
3 LBS of cream cheese
1 LB of sliced cheddar cheese
32oz of plain yogurt
(6) 6 oz mixed flavors of yogurt

Families are encouraged to clear the trunks of their vehicle as each box weighs 20-30 pounds and volunteers will need space to safely place them inside. Additionally, volunteers are needed and those interested can sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050b44aaaa2ea2fe3-love
