Meet Karl

Karl is a five year old boy with a kind heart who loves to laugh. Hugs are one of his favorite things because they keep him calm when he's upset. When Karl is happy, he likes to give people hugs and his family kisses. His favorite toys are planets/rockets/solar systems and farm animals/barn.

Karl is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. He spent the first years of his life nonverbal, and at the age of four started saying a few words. He has difficulty with social connections and regulating his emotions.  Early on after he was diagnosed, he was enrolled in speech therapy and occupational therapy.

Karl’s family approached the Love Fund for assistance with speech and occupational therapy services that are not covered by insurance. Through occupational therapy he has learned to express his feelings instead of being violent by hurting himself and others around him. Through ongoing speech therapy he now speaks a few words and continues to improve.

The family is very thankful for the support of the Love Fund so that Karl can continue his success in programs that have proven so beneficial for him.

“Even though progress was slow, having Karl in speech therapy gave him the extra help he needed to begin making verbal progress. Occupational therapy sessions also helped Karl understand and learn how to express and control his feelings.” Kathryn, Karl’s Mother
