Jackson's Social Progress
Jackson is a very caring, energetic, and curious ten-year-old boy. He loves to learn new things and soaks up knowledge like a sponge! While he has a wide variety of interests (including cars, insects, and mathematics), his current fascination is with the history of computers (Apple and Microsoft). His memory is photographic in nature, and he loves researching the stylistic evolution of the home computer and then drawing it on paper with his colored pencils. He loves creating "history" books on how the look of things evolves over time.
Jackson also has a six-year-old sister who he adores and who is very protective of him. They love to play together, and he is very kind and gentle with her and always makes sure she is included. He is definitely a rule follower and cautious, whereas his sister tends to 'leap before looking.' This is a great balance between them, and he is always making sure she is safe and protected.
Jackson has autism spectrum disorder and participates in regular ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapy to expand his social skills and have successful interactions with others. Jackson’s family approached the Love Fund for assistance with his year-round therapy. Historically, Jackson avoided social interactions with peers and would not join in group play or speak to classmates. He also exhibited work refusal during school. He made tremendous gains last year and now attends classes without a paraprofessional. He is now interacting with peers at recess and initiating homework on his own at home! He continues to work on navigating complex social situations in therapy. Thank you, Love Fund supporters, for helping Jackson develop skills that will help him throughout his life.
“Watching his growth and abilities develop with the help of ABA therapy over the last eight years has been a wonder to watch.” Jamie, Jackson’s Mother
