Mission Moment- Meet Shane

Meet Shane

Shane is a very loving sweet energetic three year old boy. He enjoys going for car rides, playing with his foam blocks, watching Cocomelon, popping bubbles and playing with water. He loves anything that is high in sensory stimulation.

When Shane was a year and a half he was diagnosed with level three non verbal autism spectrum disorder and global developmental delay. Since his diagnosis, he has enjoyed attending ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapy where he makes new friends, increases his independence with daily living routines, and learns social cues and new ways to imitate that help him interact with his family, friends and peers.

Prior to therapy Shane did not have a meaningful or effective way to communicate his wants and needs.  This led to frustration and negative behaviors. Through therapy Shane is now using a picture exchange communication system to request what he needs. He is beginning to respond to simple instructions and is working on tolerating hygiene routines such as toothbrushing and haircuts.

As Shane progresses and grows he will need continuous ABA therapy and additional support which is not fully covered by insurance. Thanks to support from the Love Fund Shane is able to continue in therapy and is making significant progress toward his communication and daily living goals.

“Since increasing hours, Shane has made significant progress toward his treatment goals, and we cannot wait to continue to see what he achieves.”
